Burn After (funny quotes) Reading Adds A New Definition To Insane Comedy In Burn After Reading

By Virgil Morris

Burn After Reading is wildly funny, but its also very sly and subversive as a piece of filmmaking, and is a spoof of the American way of stupidity, narcissism and paranoia, a shaggy-dog tale set in the spy-vs-moron style. It stars George Glooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, and Francis McDormand.

Clooney has never played it goofier than he does here as Harry, who has been virtually castrated by his successful career woman wife (Elizabeth Marvel), who is always traveling overseas to promote her childrens books. All the while, Clooneys character isn t sure what foods he s allergic to and keeps teetering noisily on the verge of anaphylactic shock with phlem. However, this does not stop Clooney from screwing Malkovich s wife, and for that matter any other woman he can lure into his sex dungeon whenever his own wife is out of town.

Brad Pitt plays Chad Feldheimer, a clueless gym employee with a bizarre streaked hairdo and a toned body continuously in motion. Brad Pitt adds another fantastically quirky character to his resume as a meathead personal trainer and the rest of the cast is wonderful as well. John Malkovich is hilarious and Tilda Swinton plays Malkovich’s wife with heartless acidity that is as funny as it is cruel.

Malkovich is a CIA agent about to be demoted to another branch of the government, with lower security clearance, because of his alcoholism. When his memoirs accidentally falls into the hands of two unwise Washington, D.C. morons when a CD copy of the rough draft ends up on the locker room floor of the Hardbodies fitness center, employees

Frances McDormand basically reprises her role from “Fargo” as a clueless yet determined woman, but the role is not tired.

Interestingly and perhaps ironically, in Burn After Reading the civilians engage in subterfuge with more passion, but no more success, than the so-called professionals. But if you didn’t mind the hit or miss mania of The Hudsucker Proxy, or just find everything these actors do to be fascinating, you’ll easily enjoy Burn After Reading.

Burn After Reading is that rare satirical thriller–a devilish, delicious, diabolically dark, irreverent and insanely funny movie that could only have come from the minds of Joel and Ethan Coen.

However, along with the popularity of the movie came a renewed interest in memorabilia and autographs as collectibles and gifts. So much so that many stores have sold out of the increasingly harder to find items. Not that this is the first time a movie has spawned greater interest in memorabilia and autographs. Movies like The Lord Of The Rings and Pirates Of The Caribbean were great hits at the boxoffice as well as the memorabilia shops. However, the recently released Burn After Reading as well as Get Smart and Sex In The City were not in the same league or category as Lord of the Rings or Pirates but have still created a renewed excitement in memorabilia for collectors and as gifts.

One collector who is well-known in memorabilia collector circles is John White. Who has a very fine collection of movie memorabilia that is not the largest but certainly one of the most interesting since every piece is carefully selected to fit into the collection. His collection is made up of small groups of items. Each group will have a piece of memorabilia from a movie like the new Speed Racer and includes an autograph from numerous actors from the show in a small framed display. In working the collection in this manner he has kept the cost down while quickly building it into a true pleasurable treasure. His most recent focus is on obtaining pieces from both Burn After Reading and Righteous Kill and he is moving quickly to obtain them before the best pieces are bought out.

While there is a not really a bad time to start collecting or giving collectibles as gifts, this time of lowered prices and increase interest makes it a perfect time.

Burn After Reading is that rare satirical thriller–a devilish, delicious, diabolically dark, irreverent and insanely funny movie that could only have come from the minds of Joel and Ethan Coen. Whom audiences can rely on for snappy acting, hilarious dialogue and off-putting amounts of bloodshed, but no one anticipated the increase in interest in memorabilia and autographs the movie generated.

Comedies Past And Present In Radio And Tv
By dror klar

When the radio was invented it suddenly became possible to hear entertainers of all kinds by many people all at once. It changed the way that we were entertained in our homes.

Suddenly there was an alternative to sitting around the fireplace and listening to each other. We could sit around the fireplace and listen to more interesting strangers.

There was a variety of programs to listen to, including funny ones. When the radio was invented and began to be a common item in our homes, there were wars and the depression to contend with.

People loved the times that they could escape all these real and depressing situations with the laughter that could be found from listening to radio.

With the invention of television, we had even more exposure to comedy on demand. Everyone loves to laugh and many of those first television shows were funny ones. Texas Star Theatre had Milton Berle and was a variety show. Many of the acts that were done on this show and others like it, were done in the vaudeville style.

The situation comedy was our next venue for very good funny material. I Love Lucy was one of the most memorable, but not nearly the only one.

Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best and others, would often depict an idealized family life that was a little to good to be true, but everyone loved to watch these programs and they all can still to be seen today because of cable and satellite television channels.

Situation comedies that we watch on television since the 1970’s try to give us a more realistic picture of what true family life is like. When it was presented to us in the way that All in the Family was, it was easier to find things associated with the way our lives really are and they can be hilarious. There are unfortunately real people in some of our families exactly like Archie Bunker.

Stand up comedians have also played a big part in our comedy choices over the years. Many of these first stand up comedians originated on the stages of vaudeville too. Then they were heard on radio and then television.

Milton Berle, Groucho Marx, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope were some of the first really successful ones. They were often the master of ceremonies of television shows and the comedic monologues that they did were an important part of a program.

We still have all these comedic forms that we can enjoy today through radio and television. They still liven up our lives on a daily basis. If we have had a bad day, it is easy to come home and turn on the tube and watch something funny. It will just about always feel better.

Underdogs Chasing The Online Entertainment Titans
By Tyler James Ellison

As a whole, online media has long been caught up in copyright infringements lawsuits with both the music and movie industries. With companies like DailyMotion making deals with traditional media companies, this may be the beginning of a change for online video. The reality of it is that the two media delivery systems had to come together eventually. Innovative ideas and new relationships between online media companies and traditional companies may just pave the road to future for online video. Just remember to watch a small French company, DailyMotion, as they help online video push towards the future.

If you mention the website YouTube, most people know immediately what you are talking about. Thus far, there really hasn’t been much competition for the Google owned video giant. In the shadows of the giant, however, remains the second place video site. Lesser known in America until recently — with innovative ideas and high quality video content, DailyMotion is forcing the larger video site to take a look.

At the time of this writing, DailyMotion receives approximately ten thousand new videos every day, and serves up 16 million page views everyday. Although 16 million pales in comparison to YouTubes 100 million videos served per day, DailyMotion has gained some Hollywood attention since it US debut earlier this year. That very attention from some big names in the entertainment industry may just lead DailyMotion’s quest to be the number one video sharing site.

Although the smaller company does not have the clout that YouTube carries with Google’s financial backing, Dailymotion is the first site of its type to sign on with a traditional television station. Before its U.S. launch Daily Motion video signed on with the French T.V. station TF1. The deal allowed the television station to play the best from DailyMotion and it allowed the website access to some of TF1’s programming. It was the first deal of its type to mix online video with traditional television delivery.

Shortly after its U.S. launch DailyMotion signed on with RDF. The U.S. company sells programming to traditional television stations, and is best known for it’s television series featuring Shaquille O’Neal. Together the two companies plan to come up with eight new programming concepts. They will share in the ad revenues from the concepts, and they plan to come up with new targeted ad campaigns to fit in with the programming. It is another pioneering deal in the world of online video. Along with the deal DailyMotion raised thirty four million in capital from a British investment firm.

DailyMotion very much still sits in the shadow of the giant, but with their innovative ideas and push towards growth, it may be interesting to watch as the up and coming company may just give YouTube a run for its money. The world of video sharing has been around for a while, but it in the past couple years with sites like YouTube and DailyMotion coming into play, the ideas have really taken off.
