(Funny news) Star Quality in Bedfordshire-00-1187

By 4Ps_Marketing

The first famous face to be revealed in this article is arguably televisions most intelligent star - Carol Vorderman. The maths whiz was born in the county town of Bedford. She brought beauty and glamour to the cult quiz show Countdown alongside co-star Richard Whiteley during her 26-year stint as the arithmetical mastermind. However, she has also been a successful writer and journalist with columns in The Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mirror as well as selling over 1000 copies of her number one bestseller Detox for Life.

Another high-flying woman is the hard-running Paula Radcliffe who, although born in Cheshire, moved to Oakley in Bedfordshire when she was 12-years-old and attended Sharnbrook Upper School and Community College. Having already been a runner for five years, she joined Bedford Athletic Club where the seeds were sown for her to embark on an illustrious long-distance running career during which she has smashed several world records and filled her trophy cabinet.

Moving onto comedy and entertainment, currently two of Britains most prominent celebrity entertainers were both educated at Bedford School. After becoming an Old Bedfordian, a certain Al Murray went on to study history at Oxford before embarking on a career in comedy. He shot to fame playing The Pub Landlord, his xenophobic and outspoken comedy persona. His comical rants also gained an adolescent following due to his fortnightly column in lads magazine Nuts.

Another big personality in the world of showbiz, and former Bedford Schoolboy, is David Lloyd Vitty, better known as Comedy Dave the sidekick to BBC Radio Ones Chris Moyles. His showbiz name was stumbled upon during one of Vittys first shows with Moyles comedian Lee Hurst sarcastically said he should be referred to as Comedy Dave because of his deadpan personality and the nickname has since stuck. Together both Moyles and Vitty have become celebrity DJs and their breakfast show has broken audience records with over seven million listeners counted in 2008. In recent years Vitty has branched off from just being Moyles partner and has fronted another show with fellow DJ and friend Mark Chapman called Chappers and Dave, also on Radio One.

Staying with entertainment, The Carry On films still stand out as examples of great British comedy, and Kenneth Williams starred in a total of 26. Despite growing up in London, Williams left during the evacuations of The Second World War and studied briefly, at Beech Hill High School in Luton. Williams was a pioneer in British suggestive comedy with his notoriously camp acting and catchphrases such as Oh Behave!

And finally, most probably two of Britains best-loved comedians of all time, Ronnie Barker and Eric Morecambe. Morecambe was a director of Luton Town FC. Shortly after becoming a director, Morecambe grew a meagre moustache and, when questioned why it was such a weak effort, Morecambe explained that it was “a football moustache: eleven a side!” Barker was born in Bedford but moved to Oxford when he was only two years old. He grew up to be an actor and writer, starring in hugely popular television shows in the seventies and eighties like The Two Ronnies, Open All Hours and Porridge.

Movie Reviews reviews The Pink Panther 2

By Mr D Stevens

This is another hilarious sequel with the same main star Steve Martin in regular fine form.

This time round there is a super thief in sight called “The Tornado” who has stolen amongst other things the Imperial sword of Japan, the Pope’s ring and has his sights set on the Pink Panther diamond.

It stars as usual the hilarious Steve Martin as the bumbling detective Inspector Jacques Clouseau, and the lovely Nicole played by Emily Mortimer(Match point, The 51st state she reminds me of a younger Caroline AhernThe Mrs Merton show), “drab and disgusting” she is not, with Jean Reno(Leon, Ronin) once again as Gendarme Gilbert Ponton.
It also has an assortment of stars from Aishwarya Rai(Bollywood superstar and wife of Abhishek Bachan, the son of the legendary Amitabh Bachan) as Sonia Solandres(always impressed by her upper class english accent). Andy Garcia as the latin romeo Vicenzo, John Cleese as Chief Inspector Dreyfus, Jeremy Irons as Avallaneda and the hilarious Lily Tomlin as Mrs Berenger.

The plot is as follows: Inorder to catch the Tornado or “Il Tornado” a dream team of super sleuths has been assembled, headed by non other than Inspector Clouseau much to the chagrin of Chief Dreyfus.
The antiques of Clouseau as usual are an embarassment to all around him, but this time round he manages to hurt the feelings of the lovely Nicole(by calling her “Drab and disgusting.”) when fighting for her affections with Vicenzo.

It is a great-fun film, and there are some classic moments, especially the scenes with Clouseau and Mrs Berenger, these are going down as classics.

MOVIE REVIEW - THE LAST KISS

By Jamie Dawson

The movie is categorized as comedy/drama/romance. The good thing is that it is more drama than comedy, so it isnt just another second rate comedy that tries to be smart & witty but ends up being neither, like many recent movies. This movie also has some weak moments, especially the beginning, but after that it finds its rhythm and manages to deliver a relatively strong story till the end, with a few exceptions.

The Last Kiss is the story of four childhood friends who discover, reaching maturity, the fact that their lives are not exactly the type of life they imagined for themselves when they were kids. They realize they are stuck in a monotone and boring way of life. Two of them are more superficial, they try to escape from their way of life by any means sex with strangers, a trip to Patagonia In my opinion, these characters dont bring anything important to the story so I didnt really understand the reason for them to be in the movie in the first place.

The story centres on Michael (Zach Braff) and Jenna (Jacinda Barrett), a soon to be married couple, already expecting a child. Michael sees his whole life in front of him, the routine of the family life and tries to find a way out by having an affair with Kim (Rachel Bilson), a pretty but relatively shallow brunette that he encountered at one of his friends wedding. Jenna finds out about the affair and the drama bursts open on the screen.

The cast includes Casey Affleck, making a good impression here although hes not memorable like he was in The Assassination of Jesse James… and its completed by the veterans Tom Wilkinson and Blythe Danner that are a delight to watch, as always.

It is a beyond average movie that deserves your attention, perfect for a Sunday afternoon. 7/10
