 Who would ever have thought that a slightly overweight woman journalist that also happened to be black would rise to the successful heights that Oprah Winfrey has? If you are one of the millions who watch her show regularly then you know that it should be no surprise at all.

Despite what many of those closed minded people in the world might think, being a woman and also being a minority in this country has nothing to do with ones ability to rise as far as they want to.

Oprah Winfrey has proven to millions that she is one of the most intelligent and gifted people on our planet. If there was ever a perfect example that gender and race has no bearing on one’s abilities, then Oprah is it.

Not only has she ascended from the meanest sorts of poverty and abuse during her childhood, but she has struggled her way through school and the ranks of the journalism world to become recognized for her talk show alone, which through satellite are aired all over the world, but she has built an empire from that same talk show that she has hosted for these many years. Yet she has remained one of the most charitable and most loved celebrities that we have ever had.

The appeal that Oprah has is that she really is still one of us even though she is probably wealthy beyond words. She has never lost the ability to sit down and talk with everyday people about their many difficulties and have as much genuine concern as with they were her own difficulties.

Over the past several years, she has gone to great lengths that others would never have done to help track down the low life predators that prey on our innocent children.

She realizes the extreme importance of finding as many of these criminals as we can and putting them where they belong, out of our society and away from our children. It is about time that someone started speaking out for the children that are affected by these tragic molestations and deaths.

The girl’s school that she has recently opened in Africa is just like something that she would do. It has provided a wonderful opportunity for these girls that they could never have even dreamed of.

It may very well help to reshape the future of that entire region by allowing intelligent young women who would have been overlooked otherwise, to become great additions to the society of the world and begin a new chain of education and a better way of life for them and their offspring as well.

So Oprah, wherever you are, those of us who admire you so greatly, salute you. It is just such a shame that there is not many more in the world just like you.

You May Be In Love If

 One of the most common human experiences that two or more (depending on how ambitious you are) people can share is love. But, it is not always easy to tell if you are in like, lust or full blown, forever loving. With that in mind, I have created this list of signs that you may be crazy in love!

1. If you have ever stared deeply into the eyes of your significant other for more than 10 seconds without cracking up hysterically, you may be in love.

2. If every person in your life tells you that she/he is no good and your mailman, pharmacist and local news station agrees, yet you think they are ..just jealous.. you may be in love.

3. Guys: if you have taken the pictures of the other women in your life off the walls, like the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition posters, Playmate of the month calendar, Monster Truck Rally 2007, you may be in love.

4. Ladies: men can produce excessive amounts of eye watering, nose burning noxious odor from almost any food or drink, and then are not above sharing it with others, especially at night. Knowing all this, and you STILL want to sleep in the same bed with him, you may be in love.

5. If your significant other asks you how they look in their new retro polyester lime green outfit and you say they look hot, you may be in love. or you have a really strong self preservation instinct.

6. Guys: if you have ever given up washing and waxing that new car you just bought to watch Sleepless in Seattle with your girlfriend/wife for the 20th time, you may be in love.

7. If you always remember every anniversary and birthday of your partner, and you are not female, you may be in love.

8. If you think the underwear and socks you get for your birthday and Christmas every year is a pleasant surprise, you may be in love.

9. If you thought the Sears Tool Set and rolling cabinet you got for your birthday was great idea, and you are not male … you may be in love.

10. If you are taken to Burger King for a romantic dinner, and that does not bother you, you may be in love.

11. If you notice your local florist starts arriving at work in a limo since you became a customer … you may be in love

12. If hearing ..Honey, wheres my clean underwear?.. brings tears of joy to your eyes … you may be in love

But the easiest way to tell if you are in love is this: If there is no one on this planet that you would rather spend everyday of your life with than the one you are with, then you ARE in love!

Psych - USA Network’s Latest Comedy Series

 Psych is the latest comedy to come out of America and is certainly very unique and original.

You have probably heard the slogan of the show, “fake psychic, real detectives”. It is therefore no secret that the show is about a guy, Shawn Spencer, who pretends to be a psychic and yet is working as a detective.

In fact, it is Shawn’s eidetic memory (also known as photographic or total recall) which allows him to recognize clues and make deductions that others cannot and the result is that everyone is marvelled to the extent that they would believe him to be a psychic. This basic premise of the show allows for a lot of material and sets the tone as one of playful deceit.

The cast are an eclectic bunch with James Roday, despite being a relative unknown, playing the lead character, Shawn Spencer.

More well known to viewers are Dule Hill, who plays Shawn’s best friend (Charlie Young from The West Wing) and Corbin Bernsen of LA Law fame who plays Shawn’s father.

Shawn, whilst being the son of a policeman, is a haphazard grown-up kid who has never held down a decent job for a significant period of time. He is somewhat reminiscent, in my opinion, of a Jim Carrey character who has taken his medicine!

Gus is a pharmaceutical sales rep and the perfect antithesis to Shawn’s hyperactivity. Naturally cautious, this can be to the detriment of his sense of adventure. It remains to be seen at this early stage of the series whether Gus will play a large part in the series or take a back seat to Shawn.

Henry Spencer, Shawn’s father, is a retired former cop who was highly respected in the force. Somewhat estranged from his son for specific reasons unknown, we can expect to see development in father and son’s relationship through the series.

The show is set in Santa Barbara, California but is actually shot in Vancouver, Canada. Whilst some eagle eyed viewers can easily spot the difference, most cannot.

Released only in the USA to date and having premiered on July 7th 2006, the show goes out at 10pm Friday night, Eastern time.

It is actually more accurate to call Psych a dramedy or comedy drama. There are no laughter lines and no slapstick and an evolution of a real story line. If you haven’t yet seen it, I suggest visiting USA Network’s site for a free viewing of the pilot - you’ll be glued for the rest of the series!
